Scaploite forms in almost any colour you can imagine, from white all the way to the deep purple of these pieces from Afghanistan. These specimens are in an Albite matrix and are associated with small Green Diopside crystals.

This piece weighs 42g and measures 5cm x 4cm x 3cm.

The obvious feature of this piece it the beautifully formed Scapolite crystal sitting proudly on one side of the specimen.\n\nPurple Scapolite, also known as include Mizzoni , Dipyre, Marialite, and Meionite, is a mineral that contains aluminum, chlorine, sodium, calcium, sulfur, carbon, and silicon. These elements crystallize in mass formations but can occur in schists, pegmatites, and marble as prismatic & tetragonal crystals.

This crystal was discovered in 1866 in Naples, Campania, Italy by Gerhard vom Rath. He believed he had unearthed a completely new mineral to the world and chose to name it in honor of his wife, Maria Rosa vom Rath. This stone would later be re-classified in 1959 as Purple Scapolite, a member of the Scapolite family. Marialite often occurs with a handful of other minerals such as Quartz, Diopside, and Green Tourmaline.

Purple Scapolite is extremely rare especially when found in its crystallized, gem formation. The only active known locality with very high-quality material comes out of the Kuran wa Munjan District, of Badakhshan, Afghanistan. \n\nPurple Scapolite activates the third eye and crown chakra, making it excellent for expanding upon your mental capabilities & dreamwork. Diopside:-

Diopside is a magnesium calcium metamorphic silicate mineral that crystallizes in the form of grainy masses and small prismatic (twinning) shards. It is a member of the Pyroxene group of minerals and was first discovered by Jose Bonifacio de Andrada e Silva in 1806 (he is also credited for finding Andradite, Petalite, and Spodumene). He chose to name it after the Greek word “dis” meaning double, “opse” meaning face. This was chosen in reference to its growing habit which can occasionally form duel prismatic crystal faces.

Diopside can be colourless but it most often a bottle green, brownish green or light green. Bright green diopside is commonly known as Chrome Diopside. The reason behind the naming is simple - Chrome Diopside is coloured by chromium, the same element that gives Emerald its rich green color. This beautiful intense green colour and its high refraction give the gem great brilliance and life.
