A one-of-a-kind formation found in a single mine on the entire planet — and this specimen is a perfect example of why collectors go wild for them.

The Specimen
This stunning piece weighs 120g and measures 6cm × 6cm × 2.5cm — a beautifully proportioned slab showcasing vivid deep-blue Azurite "suns" radiating outward against a pale, creamy Kaolinite matrix. The colour contrast is extraordinary: electric cobalt blue on white clay, as striking as anything the mineral world has to offer.

The Only Place on Earth
Azurite "suns" are one of the most geographically exclusive mineral formations in the world. They occur in one mine only: the Malbunka Copper Mine, Areyonga, Gardiner Range, MacDonnell Region, Northern Territory, Australia. You will not find authentic Azurite suns from any other locality on the planet.
Their formation is a geological marvel. Hydrothermal fluids carrying copper ions percolated through bedding planes in the rock. Carbonate molecules and copper ions in the groundwater nucleated around mineral grains within the Kaolinite clay. Forced to grow in a laterally compressed, radiating manner along preferred bedding planes, the Azurite crystals expanded uniformly outward — producing the iconic circular, sun-like shapes that give this variety its name.

About Azurite
Azurite is a copper-based carbonate mineral celebrated for its intense, deep blue colour — one of the most vivid blues found in the natural world. Its name traces a remarkable etymological journey: from the Persian lazhward (a region famed for Lapis Lazuli), through Arabic, into the Old French azur, and finally into English as both azure and azurite. The two words share the same ancient root.
Known since antiquity, Azurite was referenced by Pliny the Elder in his Natural History under the Greek name kuanos (κυανός — "deep blue," the root of the English word cyan) and the Latin caeruleum. In the early 19th century it was also called chessylite, after a famous locality near Lyon, France. Since ancient times, its deep, clear blue has been associated with desert skies and winter horizons — a colour that feels both vast and intimate.
Azurite forms through the weathering of copper ore deposits, making it a secondary mineral — and the Malbunka Mine's unique geology creates the perfect conditions for the sun formations found nowhere else.

Metaphysical Properties
Azurite has been prized for its spiritual properties as long as it has been known to humanity. It is a stone of the mind — clearing confusion and tension, opening new perspectives, and stimulating the intellect. Key associations include:
- Third Eye Chakra: Awakens psychic and intuitive abilities; deepens meditation and inner vision.
- Throat Chakra: Enhances clear communication and the expression of personal truth.
- Mental clarity: Improves focus, concentration, memorisation, and retention — a wonderful stone for students of all ages.
- Spiritual exploration: Said to facilitate out-of-body journeys, past-life exploration, and channelling states.
- Dream enhancement: Supports vivid, meaningful dreaming and the recall of insights upon waking.
Its deep blue energy is calming yet expansive — like gazing into a clear desert sky. It aligns the chakras, dissolves energetic blockages, and encourages a keen, curious engagement with life.
Why This Specimen Stands Out
