This beautiful material is from Madagascar and may also be referred to as the much more common material - Rubellite. However like a growing number of others I believe that this is more of a logistical or bureaucratic classification rather than one based on scientific or geological data. There was no export permit for Eudialyte from Madagascar, however this is for Rubellite.

Eudialyte, whose name derives from the Greek phrase Εὖ διάλυτος eu dialytos, meaning "well decomposable", is a somewhat rare, nine member ring cyclosilicate mineral, which forms in alkaline igneous rocks, such as nepheline syenites. Its name alludes to its ready solubility in acid.

Eudialyte was first described in 1819 for an occurrence in nepheline syenite of the Ilimaussaq intrusive complex of southwest Greenland. Eudialyte is from the cyclosilicate mineral family and is considered a minor ore of zirconium. It’s a complex silicate that contains zirconium, yttrium, manganese, iron, calcium, cerium, and sodium.

The colour is deep pink/red on a grey/black base material. It is a constituent of a rare combination stone from Greenland known as kakortokite. Eudialyte can be found in Canada, Russia, Madagascar, Greenland, Norway, and the USA.
