This Ammonite belong to the Ammonatidia group and is from Madagascar, which is renown for producing beautifully preserved ammonite fossils from both the Jurassic and the Cretaceous periods. Many of them have been agatized, and the inner chambers are often preserved as hollow cavities lined with crystals, which is why you often see them cut in half. As well as being famous for the beautiful fractal patterns on the outside of the shell.
Ammonoids are an extinct group of marine mollusc animals in the subclass Ammonoidea of the class Cephalopoda. These molluscs, commonly referred to as ammonites, are more closely related to living coleoids (i.e., octopuses, squid, and cuttlefish) than they are to shelled nautiloids such as the living Nautilus species. The earliest ammonites appear during the Devonian ( 419 - 358 million years ago ) and the last species died out in the Cretaceous–Paleogene extinction event ( 66 million years ago ). Suture patterns and whorl character are used to identify species. There are three major types of suture patterns are found in the Ammonoidea: Ammonatidia, Goniatite and Ceratitida.
Humans have been fascinated by ammonites throughout ancient history. Their name originates from the shells likeness to spiraled rams horns which sat atop the head of the Eqyptian god Ammon. Europeans once believed them to be remnants of snakes. In our modern era, the different species are key to biostratigraphy. They are appreciated for their spectacular ornamental displays that have yet to be definitively explained.
The Ammonite is a very powerful earth healing fossil. Its spiral shape symbolizes continual change and evolution. Ammonites have absorbed cosmic energy over eons of time and help to stimulate the life force (Chi) within. Ammonites are often used for activating Kundalini and life path energies. The Ammonite is also often recommended to put in the home to attract health, prosperity and success.
Ammonites are though to draw off all negative energies. Think of the Ammonite spirals as a filter, drawing in these dense energies which are no longer needed, moving them through the spirals and releasing them as fresh, positive, loving life force energies.
Fossils are a wonderful tool to assist you in moving from the old to the new and to be receptive to the fresh, innovative forces that are available to you. Fossils can assist you in your quest for transition, transformation and personal growth, helping you to understand the process of change. They can help you instil quality and excellence in your environment. Ammonites can help you to gain perspective on the present, integrate information about the past or potential future, or aid in reorienting yourself after entering altered states of consciousness. Ammonites are especially useful for past life recall and to contact spirit guides. Traditionally they were used to honour ancestors and to connect to ancient sources of knowledge.\n\nFossils (from Latin fossus, literally ”having been dug up”) are the mineralized or otherwise preserved remains or traces of animals, plants, and other organisms. In ancient times they were believed to be a gift from the stars and were revered by many cultures. Because of their age they have been used throughout the centuries as a talisman for protection and long life.
Fossilization is actually a rare occurrence because organic materials tend to decompose and the process requires the relatively quick preservation of bodily remains. Normally, the remains need to be covered by sediment or trapped in resin as soon as possible. However there are exceptions to this, such as if an organism comes to rest in an anoxic (without oxygen) environment at the bottom of a lake. The oldest known structured fossils date from 3.5 billion years ago. There are several different types of fossils and fossilization processes including permineralisation, mold or replacement fossils, compression fossils, resin fossils and trace fossils. Many fossils available on the market are from Morocco, which has vast deposits of Devonian Limestone which date back three hundred fifty million years ago.
