Madan ore field is situated in the southwest part of the Central Rhodope Dome, Smoylan Province, Bulgaria and contains 39 Lead/Zinc deposits that have been or currently are being mined. Known since ancient times, exploited in the Middle Ages and extensively mined during the last 50 years, producing over 95 Mt ores (∼2.5 Mt Pb, ∼2 Mt Zn; 2.54% Pb, 2.10% Zn) in more than 40 underground mines. The larger deposits are related to six fault zones with lengths up to 15 km and more. The main minerals of all deposits are Quartz, Galena and Sphalerite, with additional Johannsonite becoming important in the peripheral parts of the replacement orebodies. In decreasing order of abundance, additional materials found are Pyrite, Chalcopyrite, Calcite, Rhodochrosite, Dolomite and Rhodenite.

Sphalerite:-

Sphalerite is a Sulphide mineral with the formula ((which Zn, Fe)S).It is the principal ore of zinc. Pure sphalerite is colorless and rare. Normally, iron is present, causing the colour to vary from pale greenish yellow to brown and black with increasing iron content. When iron content is high it is an opaque black variety, marmatite.

It is usually found in association with galena, pyrite, and other sulphides along with Calcite, Dolomite and Fluorite. Miners have also been known to refer to sphalerite as Zinc blende, black-jack and Ruby jack. Its complex crystals combine tetrahedral or dodecahedral forms with other faces.

Sphalerite gets its name from the Greek sphaleros, meaning “deceitful,” because its lustrous dark crystals can be mistaken for other minerals. It is often coarsely crystalline or massive, or forms banded, botryoidal, or stalactitic aggregates. It occurs in hydrothermal vein deposits contact metamorphic zones, and replacement deposits formed at high temperature (1,065°F/575°C or above). It is also found in meteorites and lunar rocks.

Sphalerite is here to help ground your energies and activate your lower 3 chakras. It raises one's courage, drive, and focus levels to heights they never knew they had within. Galena:-

Galena was named by Pliny the Elder in 77-79 from the Greek word “galene” which means lead ore. It has been mined for its lead and silver content since 3000 BC.

Galena is one of the most abundant and widely distributed sulphide minerals. It crystallizes in the cubic crystal system often showing octahedral forms. It is often associated with the minerals sphalerite, calcite and fluorite. Galena is the main ore of lead, used since ancient times. Because of its somewhat low melting point it was easy to liberate by smelting. It typically forms in low-temperature sedimentary deposits.

In some deposits the galena contains about 1–2% silver, a byproduct that far outweighs the main lead ore in revenue. In these deposits significant amounts of silver occur as included silver self-identifying mineral phases or as limited silver in solid solution within the galena structure.

One of the oldest reported uses of galena was in the eye cosmetic kohl. In Ancient Egypt, this was applied around the eyes to reduce the glare of the desert sun and to repel flies, which were a potential source of disease. Galena is also the primary ore of lead, and is often mined for its silver content, such as at the Galena Mine in northern Idaho.
