These spectacular pieces of Sodalite are polished on one side, a style I am very drawn to as regular customers to my store will be well aware. This particular selection of pieces all have varying amounts of Graphite contained in their makeup. This is the silver metallic material that you can see in the photos and especially in the video for each piece. Some pieces also have small areas of Sunstone embedded within, but it is the Graphite which grabs my attention, both visually and metaphysically.
This piece weighs 195g and measures 9cm x 5cm x 2.5cm and has been reduced from $27.99 due to obvious scratches in the polish.
Sodalite is a rare rock forming mineral best known for its blue to blue-violet colour and is a member of the feldspathoid mineral group. Sodalite is also a well know fluorescent mineral under UV light. Sodalite occurs in igneous rocks that crystallized from sodium-rich magmas. This is the origin of the name "sodalite." These magmas also contained so little silicon and aluminum that quartz and feldspar minerals are often absent.
Sodalite often has white veining, and it can be confused with Lapis Lazuli, however Sodalite generally has very little, if any pyrite. The white material is general Calcite and if Sunstone, (orange coloured material) is also contained the material will have the trade name of Sunset Sodalite. Small amounts of sodalite are present in many specimens of lapis lazuli. If significant pyrite is present, the specimen is not sodalite.
The name Sodalite reflects this mineral's Sodium content and was named by a Glasgow chemist, Professor Thomas Thomson, who had been hired by the British to identify the stone after they had captured a shipment of it being sent from Greenland to Denmark during the Napoleonic Wars. Although first discovered and recorded in 1806 in Greenland, it took until 1891 for this attractive deep blue stone to become important in the world of ornamental stones. It was then that it was found in vast deposits in Ontario, Canada, by Frank D. Adams, during the Geological Survey of Canada. Later, as it was chosen as an interior decoration for the Marlborough House in England by Princess Patricia who had been visiting Ontario at the time and who had fallen in love with the stone, many began to refer to it as "Princess Blue". Sodalite has also been called "Canadian Blue Stone" or simply "Bluestone".
Sodalite encourages being true to self and standing up for your beliefs. A stone of self-expression and confidence, Sodalite can aid in issues of self-worth, self-acceptance, and self-esteem. Sodalite promotes intuition and a trust in one's own judgment, which can be a great ally in daily life. Sodalite helps to achieve emotional balance, releasing old conditioning and programming of the past which no longer serves.
A stone of awakening, Sodalite stimulates the Pineal Gland and the Third Eye, and deepens meditation. Sodalite is helpful for those who find themselves to be over-emotional, due to its ability to focus energy on the Third-Eye and Throat Chakras. This will allow one to use more logic and intuition, rather than the emotions from an over-developed Heart Chakra. Sodalite helps to enhance psychic abilities while discouraging any obsession about such abilities.
Sodalite encourages discipline and will in one's personal and public lives, and can be a facilitator of career advancement when used in this manner. Carrying Sodalite during the day can help one to find efficient ways of dealing with daily tasks and problems.
Sodalite works with the Throat and Third-Eye Chakras to help and guide one on their spiritual path by opening a window into the subconscious mind, pulling subtle images into the conscious mind. Sodalite can also be an aid to those studying symbolism and its role in the greater scheme, by helping one to become aware of the patterns that can occur over the course of one's life, and their meanings and
Sodalite balances the metabolism, boosts the immune system and overcomes calcium deficiencies. It combats radiation damage by soaking up electromagnetic smog. Sodalite treats the throat, vocal cords, larynx and helps with hoarseness and digestive disorders. It cools fevers, lowers blood pressure and stimulates the absorption of body fluids. Sodalite can also help to prevent insomnia.
Graphite:-
Graphite is a naturally occurring form of crystalline carbon. It is a native element mineral found in metamorphic and igneous rocks. Graphite is a mineral of extremes, it is extremely soft, cleaves with very light pressure, and has a very low specific gravity. In contrast, it is extremely resistant to heat and nearly inert in contact with almost any other material. These extreme properties give it a wide range of uses in metallurgy and manufacturing.
Graphite is a mineral that forms when carbon is subjected to heat and pressure in Earth's crust and in the upper mantle. Pressures in the range of 75,000 pounds per square inch and temperatures in the range of 750 degrees Celsius are needed to produce graphite. These correspond to the granulite metamorphic facies.
Carbon is one of the most basic building blocks of life and is widely spread in nature. Making up such a large proportion of our bodies, carbon tunes into and distils the essence of who we are, helping us to feel more “ourselves”, and also recognise our deep connection with this planet and the natural life on it.
Graphite homogenises the disparate energies within the physical body, balancing the chakras and encouraging energetic flow. It aids flexibility, softens our rough edges, and smooths the way through difficult periods in our lives. Because of its strong electrical conductivity, some practitioners use it to work with the body’s electrical impulses and electrical field.
Graohite sometimes occurs as a coating or intergrowth on other minerals, such as prehnite and garnet. In addition to the qualities of that mineral, graphite adds another dimension of softness, balance, and flow. For example, a grounding crystal like almandine garnet will still be grounding, but will no longer be entirely focussed on the Root Chakra. Graphite’s qualities balance the chakra system and encourage flow throughout the entire body, and its softening and smoothing qualities can also make a crystal that might otherwise be overpowering easier to work with.
