This specimen weighs 144g and measures 8cm x 5.5cm x 3cm.

This awesome material is Iridescent Geothite/Limonite with clear Selenite crystals and was sourced from the Edong Mining District, Daye Co, Huangshi, Hubei, China. Personally I would classify this material as Goethite going by the habit and iridescence but as the specific location was not identified it would be only my identification. This is a vast, highly mineralised area with many mines ranging from giant Open Cut mines to small mines operated by one or two people and small pockets of unusual material occasionally surface.

This area has a very long history of mining and working metals:-

As early as the Yin and Shang Dynasties (1570-1045 BC), Tonglv Mountain, where Huangshi, Hubei, is located, has been mining and smelting copper, and many ancient mining and metallurgical sites have been unearthed in this area. In 2018, the Tonglvshan ancient copper mine site was included in the second batch of national industrial heritage list, as the best preserved, most complete, and earliest ancient copper mine site.

Quite often you will see material that looks very similar to Geothite sold as Limonite and these names seem virtually interchangeable. However if you wish to get technical this may help.

Limonite:-

Limonite is a general term used for a mix of hydroxides and oxides of Iron, with no visible crystals, and a yellow-brown streak. 'Limonite' is most commonly the mineral species Goethite but can also consist of varying proportions of Lepidocrocite, Hematite, Jarosite and or Maghemite, along with impurities of other minerals such as Quartz and Clay. 

Goethite:-

Goethite is a specific crystalline Iron Hydroxide mineral that contains no other impurities. The name Limonite properly should be restricted to impure hydrated Iron oxide (with variable water content) that is colloidal, or amorphous, in character. Often brown and earthy, it is formed by alteration of other Iron minerals, such as the hydration of Hematite or the oxidation and hydration of Siderite or Pyrite.

Goethite, correctly pronounced ger-tite, is a naturally occurring iron oxide mineral that takes on various forms and colours. It forms through the oxidation of Iron in the presence of water and oxygen and can be found all over the world and is abundant on Mars.

Named in 1806 by Johann Georg Lenz in honor of the German poet, novelist, playwrighter, philosopher, politician, and geoscientist Johann Wolfgang von Goethe [August 28, 1749, Frankfurt, Germany – March 22, 1832, Weimar, Germany].

Goethite is an Iron hydroxide mineral that crystallizes in the form of masses, botryoidal, stalactites, and rarely, small prismatic crystals. The colour  of Goethite ranges from black, brown and silver, to lighter colors such as red, yellowish brown, and orange.

Goethite has been used for thousands of years by many different civilizations. It was a popular pigment used to color paint, with some notable artifacts found containing Goethite within. The famous Caves of Lascaux in France contain numerous cave paintings of animals and human figures drawn with Hematite and Goethite pigment. These drawings are estimated to be over 16,000 years old.

if selenite crystals show translucency, opacity, and/or color, it is caused by the presence of other minerals, sometimes in druse, (druse is the crust of tiny, minute, or micro crystals that form or fuse either within or upon the surface of a rock vug, geode, or another crystal).
