This material is Copperlite or Coppernite and not Nuumite, although you will find many unscrupulous or clueless people selling it as Nuumite. The Crystal world is now saturated with “trade names” for material with the same chemical makeup but slightly different appearance, misrepresented material and just plain confusion. Which unfortunately results in many innocent people being taken advantage of and paying excessive prices for incorrectly label pieces.

Copperlite is a natural rock that resembles nuummite as it is a dark rock with pyrite flecks, but that is as far as the resemblence goes, there is no iridescence and the metallic flecks do not elongate like they do in the original material that was first discovered by K. L. Giesecke in 1810 and was named after the area in Greenland in which it was found, Nuuk. Copperlite looks deep black with squarish flecks of copper coloured flash. Nuummite looks like a meteor shower and usually has streaks (gold and/or multi colour iridescence) as well as flecks. Cooperite is a grey mineral consisting of platinum sulphide (PtS), generally in combinations with sulphides of other elements such as palladium and nickel (PdS and NiS).

This product is often sold as Nuumite, Nummite or the ‘Sorcerer Stone’. Sometimes this is accidental as many people sell material nowadays that they buy from a wholesaler and simply believe what they are told without doing their own research or having knowledge about Crystals/Minerals etc in general. Sadly sometimes this is intentional to make a huge profit by intentionally misrepresenting certain material, which is becoming more common all the time. Nuummite is usually black in colour and opaque. It consists of two amphiboles, gedrite and anthophyllite, which form exsolution lamellae that give the rock its typical iridescence.

Coppernite has its own unique properties. Coppernite has the ability to circulate energy and is especially helpful when you are feeling stuck or stagnant mentally or emotionally.
