This incredible material is from a small find from the Xia Yang Mine, Xia Yang City, Yongchun Co, Quanzhou, Fujian, China. There are several different generations of Calcite Growth on these specimens and several pieces also contain Botryoidal Green Fluorite.

This  piece weighs 100g and measures 6cm x 3.5cm x 3cm.

The perfectly clear Calcite that have a columnar formation habit show no reaction to UV light. This is due to the fact that this species has virtually no impurities and it is the impurities that react with UV light. This ultra clear variety of Calcite is highly sought after for its aesthetic appeal and the incredibly clear distinct crystal habit. The Xia Yang Mine is renowned for producing some of the most exceptional Columnar Calcite specimens, highlighting the diverse mineral wealth of the region.

Calcite:-

While its name comes from the German word calcit (meaning limestone) and only came into use relatively recently, in the ancient world, Calcite was grouped together with gypsum and called “alabaster” for its fair, milky colour. During the Second World War, it was used for gun sights, due to its ready availability.
