This Pink Opal material is sourced from state of Jalisco in Mexico. Although initially only thought to be found in the Andes mountains in Peru, Pink Opal is a type of “Common Opal” and is found in approximately 10 locations throughout the world including the United States and Australia. However most of these locations yield poor quality and/or inconsistent material that is not available on a commercially viable scale. Peruvian and Mexican Pink Opal are generally considered the two best, most consistent locations for top quality material.

Common Opal is noncrystalline, unlike most other gemstones. It is a mineraloid composed primarily of hydrated silica, but it lacks the play-of-colour seen in precious opals like the fiery flashes in precious opal.
