These awesome pieces have been in my collection for a long time, and no is the time to send them on. This material was sourced back in the 1980’s and is technically Tourmaline var Elbaite in Albite var Cleavelandite rom the Skardu Area, Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. This location is well known for producing stunning mineral combinations which can include Clear Quartz, Aquamarine, Schorl, Elbaite Mica and many, many others.

These first 6 specimens will each contain Elbaite crystals with a variety of green tones from quite light to extremely dark. The green is caused by impurities of Iron and Titanium, the concentration and percentage combination result in the strength of the colour.

This piece weighs 68g and measures 6cm x 4cm x 3cm and is peppered in small olive coloured Elbaite crystals with a few well formed larger ones as well.

This is another confusing material to many people as Elbaite is a colourful member of the Tourmaline group of minerals. Green Tourmaline may also be Dravite, so location is important when identifying this material. The Tourmaline family consists of 14 distinct minerals, but only one, Elbaite, accounts for nearly all of the Tourmaline gemstones. So whilst all Elbaite is Tourmaline not all Tourmaline is Elbaite.

People are very familiar with Schorl, also known as Black Tourmaline, (although if sliced thin enough it has been found that no Tourmaline is actually black). Schorl is the most common Tourmaline variety and forms in a large range of conditions in many locations worldwide. Other names that may be familiar but all belong to the Elbaite family are “Watermelon Tourmaline”, Incicolite and Rubellite.

For simplicity sake I will use the term Tourmaline var Elbaite to encompass the colourful Tourmaline varieties I will be listing, whether they are green, blue or multicoloured. I will provide a general overview of Tourmaline and then expand into the applicable Elbaite colour.

Tourmaline:-

Tourmaline belongs to a complex family of aluminium borosilicates mixed with iron, magnesium, or other various metals that, depending on the proportions of its components, may form as red, pink, yellow, brown, black, green, blue or violet. Its prismatic, vertically striated crystals may be long and slender, or thick and columnar, and are uniquely triangular in cross-section. They often vary in coloration within a single specimen, lengthwise or in cross sections, and may be transparent or opaque. The name Tourmaline comes from an ancient Sinhalese word turmali, meaning “a mixed colour precious stone,” or turamali, meaning “something small from the earth.”

The  most common species of tourmaline is schorl, which accounts for ninety-five percent of all tourmaline in nature. It is black, or sometimes a blue so deep it appears to be black. The term Schorl was in use before the 1400s, named for a town in Saxony, Germany, where black tourmaline was found in nearby tin mines.

Ancient magicians relied upon Tourmaline to protect them from earth demons as they cast their spells. Today this stone is still revered as a premier talisman of protection, a psychic shield deflecting and dispelling negative energies, entities, or destructive forces. It guards against radiation and environmental pollutants, and is highly useful in purifying and neutralising one’s own negative thoughts and internal conflicts, and turning them into positive, usable thoughts.

Tourmaline is an excellent grounding crystal for meditation and healing. This mysterious and alluring stone represents the black colour ray, an absorbent shade that draws in all other colours of the spectrum. In ancient traditions, black stones symbolise darkness as place of initiation and change that comes from confronting your biggest fears. In today's world, phobias are a part of everyday life, so it's no surprise that anxiety has become the common cold of garden-variety mental troubles.

While Tourmaline is one of the most powerful and effective crystals for anxiety. If you find yourself being swept away by the storm clouds of fear, feel instantly calm and relaxed by holding a black Tourmaline crystal stone in each hand. Here's some good advice--Keep calm and carry black Tourmaline e with you everywhere you go. The security guard of healing crystals, this protective stone is another essential component to your healing crystal first aid kit.

Black Tourmaline is deeply connected to the base Chakras, those earthly roots that help you to feel safe and secure in your place upon this earth. When your root Chakras are beautifully balanced and in cheque, this grants you that deep-seated self-confidence to embrace who you are, speak your truth, and set upon your own path to spiritual healing. And Black Tourmaline can pave the way.

There are many shades of Tourmaline, but none that hold the protective powers associated with Black Tourmaline. Formed where steamy waters and minerals move through pockets of the earth, this stone is deeply enriched with iron and manganese, both of which help grant Black Tourmaline the charging and magnetic properties that make it such a vital tool in your grounding box.

Feeling grounded is one of the most fundamental ingredients for those of us on a personal journey. Without the joy of being gorgeously grounded, we may find ourselves feeling lost, adrift, unmotivated and unconnected to any deeper sense of self. It’s also important to feel protected, and this again is where Black Tourmaline comes in.

Another incredible benefit of Black Tourmaline is its ability to swap out detrimental patterns for positive ones. If you have old habits that aren’t serving you well, then Black Tourmaline will use its incredible frequencies to take all that energy and transform it into something pure and positive, helping you to consistently be on your best game and to achieve all that you can.

If you tend to lose your head or feel like the world is falling in on you, Black Tourmaline can truly transform your potential for staying calm and collected.
