Fluorite, (also called fluorspar) is the mineral form of calcium fluoride, CaF2. It belongs to the Halide minerals. It crystallizes in isometric cubic habit, although octahedral and more complex isometric forms are not uncommon. Rainbow Fluorite exhibits a combination of colours inherent in Fluorite crystals, such as purple, blue, green, clear and yellow and, as such, it blends all of the properties of each colour.
Fluorite often occurs with other common minerals, including quartz and calcite which makes it an excellent healing tool for its overall cleansing and purifying effects. It typically contains green and purple colours, giving it an incredible synergistic energy that heals and rejuvenates the aura. The green cleanses and purifies the heart chakras by aligning your mind with the true desires of the heart. The perfect prescription for a case of existential burnout, the purple colours in the Fluorite crystal stone helps you discover your divine purpose in life. It opens and stimulates the third eye chakra, clearing the way for spiritual expansion.
Fluorite is one of the most collectible and highly sought after crystals in the world, loved by mineralogists and metaphysical healers alike. Its remarkable cubes are at times, almost too perfect to believe, emerging like magic treasure in matrix rock, or tightly stacked cube on cube like a futuristic city in miniature. Fluorite is an extraordinary creation of Nature, beautiful and luminous, soft and glassy, often vibrant in colour, with an internal structure of order and perfection that resonates with the human mind like no other crystal. It carries a calm, stable frequency that brings order to chaos, and scattered and discordant energies into cohesion and harmony. Fluorite supports spirituality and thought, focus and concentration, and balance in all aspects of one’s life.
Known as the “Genius Stone,” Fluorite represents the highest state of mental achievement, boosting aptitude and discernment, the absorption of new information, and helping one work through complex issues. Its energy stimulates the electrical charge of brain cells, drawing in more life force (prana) as it encourages both hemispheres to work harmoniously together in balance. Expanding the consciousness, it advances the mind to greater mental, spiritual and psychic awareness. It stirs creativity and provides a limitless range of avenues for exploration. Fluorite forms in many colour varieties, and while each manifests its abilities in different ways, all serve the mental body, brain and energetic levels of being.
Keep the creative juices flowing by meditating with the Fluorite crystal, a stone that gives order to chaos. Sit quietly with Fluorite and call on its gentle healing powers to help you coordinate your physical and mental abilities. As you inhale, imagine its white light of healing vibrations infusing your spirit with its energizing waves of clarity and rejuvenation. When you meditate with Fluorite, it reminds you to step away from the canvas to see the bigger picture. As you exhale, imagine your feelings of confusion and frustration evolving into a sense of peace that comes from its green shades, a colour that evokes the spirit of deep tropical seas.\n\nFluorite cleanses and stabilises the aura. It absorbs and neutralises negative energy and stress. An excellent learning aid, Fluorite increases our powers of concentration, self-confidence and helps us in decision-making. It encourages positivity, balances the energies, and improves balance and coordination, both physically and mentally.
n\nSmokey Quartz is the national gem of Scotland, a country with the longest historical association with the stone. The Celts, who began colonizing the British Isles around 300 B.C., mined the brownish-grey Quartz in the Cairngorm Mountains of the Scottish highlands, calling the dark brown to black crystals they found Morion, and the yellow-brown to greyish-brown crystals Cairngorm after the mountains where they were located. These stones eventually became prominent adornment for Highlander apparel in the form of jewellery, shoulder brooches and kilt pins, and as power stones on the handles of weaponry, especially the Scottish dagger sgian dubh, a “sock knife” which is still part of a proper kilted dress uniform. \n\nThe term “Smokey Quartz” was first reported to the gem world by J. S. Dana in 1837 and was named for its colour which had been likened to smoke. Smokey Quartz is readily found in many locations around the world. A variety of Quartz, it is a silicon dioxide mineral ranging in colour from pale, smoky grey to deep brown and black, sometimes yellowish-brown. It forms as crystals, drusy or in massive form, and its colour is caused by impurities of aluminium and natural irradiation of the stone. Though Smoky Quartz can be nearly opaque, it is almost always transparent to translucent. Many gems on the market are Clear Quartz that have been artificially treated with radium or x-rays to turn the crystals dark, and are usually very dark and unnatural looking, often lacking in transparency. Though Scottish named, the origin of the word morion may have come from the Greek term for “baneful or hideous,” or from the French moreau, meaning “black.” The name may also relate to quadertz, an old German word for a bad mineral. In any event, morion is the German, Danish, Spanish and Polish synonym for Smoky Quartz. Smoky Quartz has also been erroneously marketed as “Smoky Topaz.” \n\nIn the metaphysical world, Smokey Quartz is one of the most efficient crystals for grounding and cleansing. Alone, or naturally blended with other Quartz, it provides some of the finest healing tools available. \n\nIn the realm of dark stones, Smokey Quartz offers a rare and beautiful transparency that draws light into shades of black and brown. With crystals as pale and surreal as a wisp of smoke, as dark and clear as midnight waters, or as warm and rich as a cognac by the fire, this mineral honours its connection with Mother Earth. It is a talisman of the Root Chakra, an anchor in the natural world, drawing white light energy from the Crown down through the body to be deeply rooted into the physical plane. It initiates movement of primal forces within the body and activates one’s survival instincts in a purified way. It brings strength and stability, and a sense of personal pride in walking the Earth and inhabiting a human form. \n\nSmokey Quartz was known as a Stone of Power. To the ancient Druids, it was sacred and signified the potent dark power of Earth gods and goddesses. In other cultures it guided souls to the afterlife, served in shamanistic rituals and tribal ceremonies, and was utilised in magic and scrying to connect with spirits of the lower worlds. Smokey Quartz’s phenomenal power, then and now, lies in its ability to protect and ground one physically and spiritually to this world, and to absorb and transmute significant amounts of negative energy and release it into the Earth to be neutralised naturally. It provides a vital shield against psychic attack, emotional and environmental stress, and is used extensively in healing and meditation.
