I was fortunate to acquire a large quantity of this high quality material for a great price, so I am passing the savings on to my customers. Some pieces are on matrix and make great display specimens others are ‘Floater’ crystals of solid Yellow Brucite.

This piece weighs 4g and measures 4 cm x 3cm x .3cm.

Brucite is a magnesium hydroxide mineral that can be seen in a variety of colors such as blue, green, white, yellow, pink, red, and even colourless. Brucite occurs in low-temperature hydrothermal veins in metamorphic (transformation by heat, pressure etc.) limestone. This crystal can also occur in marble, when it is an alteration of a similar magnesium mineral known as Periclase.

Bfucite was first discovered in 1824 by American mineralogist Archibald Bruce. He was in his lab examining an unknown magnesium-heavy mineral from New Jersey. He realized that it was an entirely new piece of Earth in his hands, so he chose to name it after himself (Archibald was also the first person to correctly analyze the Zincite material that came out of Sussex County, New Jersey).

This particular material is from Wadh, a town in the Khuzdar District of Baluchistan, Pakistan. This area is regarded as the source of the best specimens of Yellow Brucite in the world. Generally Brucite found in other places has a green, white or pale yellow colour, whereas the pieces found in Pakistan have a nice luster and seem to be of more refined quality. Brucite crystals from the region have a vivid lemon-yellow color and great luster, and form fascinating aggregates. Other notable localities include Italy, Russia, Spain, the United States, Germany, Austria, China and Australia.
