This beautiful 100% natural Tektite is from Tibet also be referred to as “Sirius Aerolite” Tektites. They are regarded as talismans of luck in many cultures and have been used my Shamans to accelerate healing from illness and injuries. They are often regarded as sacred stones and are highly valued in Tibetan Buddhism. They are believed to hold spiritual energy and are used in various spiritual practices and rituals.

Tektites, from the Ancient Greek, (tēktós) 'molten') are generally gravel-sized bodies composed of black, green, brown or grey natural glass formed from terrestrial debris ejected during meteorite impacts. The term was coined by Austrian geologist Franz-Eduard Seuss (1867–1941), son of Eduad Suess. They generally range in size from millimetres to centimetres.

Tektites have been the subject of intense scientific scrutiny throughout much of the 20th century owing to their unknown and possibly extraterrestrial origins, but they are now recognized as having formed from the melting and rapid cooling of terrestrial rocks that have been vaporized by the high-energy impacts of large meteorites, comets, or asteroids upon the surface of Earth. Tektites are usually black or dark brown in colour and have a distinctive shape, often described as teardrop or button-shaped. They are composed mainly of silica, with varying amounts of other elements depending on their specific composition.

Tektites are often mistaken for Obsidian, due to their similarities in physical appearance. The main factor that differentiates the two are Tektites' lack of water within its chemical composition. This is due to the extreme heat that formed Tektites during a meteoric collision with Earth. If you were to put each stone side by side and bring them to their melting point, you’ll notice the heavy amounts of bubbles and foam coming from the Obsidian. This is simply due to the abundance of water it carries, as well as a few other minor chemical impurities. Also Tektites will be translucent whereas only thin pieces of Obsidian have this characteristic.

You may recognize some of the different types of Tektites by different names. For example Moldavite and Libyan Desert Glass are both types of Tektites. Libyan Desert Glass is almost pure Silica, which is hardly surprising given the impact surroundings. Moldavite is a type of glass-like Tektite, (not a Gemstone) which is believed to have originated from a meteorite impact that occurred around 15 million years ago in what is now the Bohemian region of the Czech Republic. I won’t go into detail of the many different named Tektites but there are quite a few including “Darwin Glass”, “Agni Manitie”, ‘Georgiaites’, ‘Bikolites’…etc.

Due to the prohibitive cost of Moldavite in particular many people will use either Libyan Glass, Agni Manitite, (Tektite from The Indonesian archipelago), or these Sirius Aerolite from Tibet and China to aid in their spiritual journey. These are simply wonderful pieces and I have chosen a variety of sizes for your selection.
