As with all of the pieces in my store I have painstakingly selected all of these pieces individually to ensure the best quality and a range of sizes, shapes and features, including Red Hematite, Candle Formations and Etching. Because I purchased a large number of these I was able to negotiate a better price to pass on to you, as this material has always been very expensive and only getting more so, many stores sell this material for up to $3,500 per kg !! Many of the pieces are “water clear” and due to the Specular Hematite will have internal cracks creating rainbows. Please carefully watch the videos for each piece as due to the white Calcite coating what looks like damage to the tip of the Quartz is usually only the brittle Calcite.

Whilst Specular Hematite with Quartz is found in various locations throughout the world the formation type differs quite dramatically from location to location. This particular material which is commonly referred to as Specularite Quartz is instantly recognisable as being from the world famous Huanggang Mine, Keshiketeng Co, Chifeng Prefecture, Inner Mongolia, China. The shimmering effect is caused by aggregate pockets of incredibly shiny flakes of Hematite as well as minor traces of Mica. These gorgeous Quartz Points are partially coated in a thin layer of white Calcite contrasting with the Specular Hematite also known as Specularite in rose formations. I do not recommend frequent handing of this material as although Hematite is quite hard it is also quite brittle and as you can see from the photos and video it does come off.

Clear Quartz:-

Quartz is a silicon dioxide mineral with a hardness of 7. Its crystal system is hexagonal which grows in a large variety of formations. Hematite:-

Hematite’s name is derived from the Greek word haima, meaning blood. This stone is known for connecting the body to the Earth. Ancient Greeks associated Hematite with Mars, the god of war. Many warriors, including ancient Greeks, Romans, and Native Americans, used crushed Hematite on their bodies to create a red paint-like appearance thought to keep them safe in battle. Hematite was believed to make a warrior invulnerable and give them courage and strength. During the Patheolithic era, early humans created cave paintings using the red pigment from ground-up Hematite.

Hematite was also used for medicinal purposes in ancient times. In Mesopotamia, Hematite was used to cool the blood. Similarly, in ancient Egypt, Hematite was recommended for treating inflammation because of its iron oxide properties.

Hematite is a very special mineral that was believed to be used by man 164,000 years ago. A small area south of Mossel Bay in South Africa has been excavated numerous times since 2000 and produced numerous artefacts dating back hundreds of thousands of years ago. Interestingly, an observation from one of the excavations was that of writing on a cave wall in a red powder substance. Through extensive research and analysis it had been confirmed that this powder was in fact Hematite.

NASA made a remarkable discovery when they found Hematite on Mars. It was found by the infrared spectrometer on the NASA Mars Global Surveyor and 2001 Mars Odyssey spacecraft when it was orbiting the planet. What makes this even more interesting is the need of water for Hematite to occur. NASA Scientists are now studying the images and samples in which they took to help better understand the environment of Mars, and if it is suitable for life.

Specular Hematite (also called Specularite) is a variety of Hematite with a shimmering, silvery surface and a black undertone that sometimes comes across as grey or navy blue. This stone includes traces of mica within its makeup and usually has a very distinct metallic lustre although it can occur in dull formations as well.

Specular Hematite carries the same general properties as Hematite but takes it further into the realm of spirit. This stone stimulates the root and crown, forming a strong link between them to raise the lower, grounded frequencies and to ground the higher, spiritual frequencies.
