Amazonite is actually called Microcline and is a Potassium, Aluminium Silicate and belongs to the Feldspar Group of Minerals. Amazonite is a vitreous to pearly, translucent to opaque stone that occurs as blocky or tabular crystals. The most desired colours are blue, blue-green to green with white striations, but Amazonite can also occur with brown, white, cream and yellow patterning as part of the crystal.Amazonite is a mineral of limited occurrence.

Amazonite mineral rock has an extremely long history and was treasured by the people of pre-Columbian South and Central America. The pale green mineral rock is believed to have been treasured as far back as the 10th century BC. According to legend, the warrior women of the ancient Amazon tribe in Brazil used amazonite stones to adorn their shields, cure illnesses and heal wounds. It is believed they gave a piece of amazonite rock to the men who visited them.
