This Stone has many local names and is found in various locations throughout the world, however the material displays individually characteristics unique to each location. Basically this Brecciated Jasper is a conglomeration of various river pebbles that have combined with highly silicated sand and Quartz and fused together for eternity. This particular material is from an undisclosed location in China and has a unique mix of creams and bold red colours with varying degrees of brecciation and many have large amounts of clear Chalcedony adding a delightful highlight. Such beauty and uniqueness in each piece with a wonderful variety of colours and patterns, my current favourite Jasper for sure.

This piece weighs 47g and measures 5cm x 1cm.

In general, Jasper is known as the “supreme nurturer”. It sustains and supports during times of stress, and brings tranquility and wholeness. Used in healing, Jasper unifies all aspects of your life. Jasper reminds people to help each other.

The word Jasper comes from “iaspi” a Greek word that means “spotted stone”. Jasper is an opaque rock of virtually any color stemming from the mineral content of the original sediments or ash. Patterns arise during the consolidation process forming flow and depositional patterns in the original silica rich sediment or volcanic ash, Hydrothermal action is generally thought to be required in the formation of jasper.

Jasper can be modified by the diffusion of minerals along discontinuities providing the appearance of vegetative growth, i.e., dendritic. The original materials are often fractured and/or distorted, after deposition, into diverse patterns, which are later filled in with other colorful minerals. Weathering, with time, will create intensely coloured superficial rinds.

The classification and naming of jasper varieties presents a challenge. Terms attributed to various well-defined materials includes the geographic locality where it is found, sometimes quite restricted such as "Bruneau" (a canyon) and "Lahontan" (a lake), rivers and even individual mountains; many are fanciful, such as "forest fire" or "rainbow", while others are descriptive, such as "autumn" or "porcelain". A few are designated by the place of origin such as a brown Egyptian or red African.

Brecciated comes from the word ‘breccia’, which is a geology term used when rocks composed of broken fragments cement together to form a fine-grained matrix.

The pentacle has great spiritual significance and has appeared in cultures and religions across the globe, including Mayan, Grecian, Egyptian, Indian and more. The star is said to be a symbol of life, unity, and divine knowledge. And in eastern cultures, particularly in China and Japan, it was seen as a representation of the five elements (water, fire, earth, metal, and wood).

In that way, we can see that the pentacle represents the harmony and balance that can be found when these elements are working together, encompassed within a single body (the circle). In many cases, the symbol has been used as protection against evil.

However, the roots of the star as a spiritual symbol go back as far as ancient Egypt. Because it has been used in so many cultures and religions, its spiritual meaning is complex and varied.

In Hindu temples in south India, for example, the six-pointed star (or ‘hexagram’) has come to represent a state of spiritual balance and harmony exemplified by the star’s perfect symmetry. In Judeo-Christian religions, the interlocking triangles are meant to present the father, son, and holy spirit, all converging at the moment of creation.

But it can also represent negative and positive principles in some religions and cultures, with one star pointing downward and the other up. In this way, the hexagram can also be seen as a sort of yin and yang, an acknowledgment of the duality of existence.

As you can see, a symbol as ubiquitous and ancient as a star has no one fixed spiritual meaning. The symbol has inspired virtually every culture and religion on earth, as every person has been able to look into the night sky and see the same thing.

The difference is in how these glimmering stars have been interpreted – whether it is as celestial bodies, symbolic goals, or tools to navigate through life both literally and metaphysically.
