It contains Nepheline Syenite, Plagioclase, Perthite, Anorthoclase, Anorthite, Ortholclase, and Albite and is usually rich in titanium.

This stone is usually dark grey, dark blue, or black in colour . It also usually has Nepheline or Quartz inclusions. Its name is derived from the place where this igneous rock was found. It originated from the Larvik Region of Norway. Larvikite occurs in the Larvik Batholith which is from the Permian age, forming about 292–298 million years ago. Larvikite is also found in the Killala Lake Alkalic Rock Complex near Thunder Bay in Ontario, Canada. The crystallisation of a ternary feldspar indicates that this rock began to crystallise under lower crustal conditions.

Larvikite is also sometimes called Black Moonstone, even if it’s not actually a moonstone. It’s also called Birds Eye Granite, Pearlspar, Blue Pearl, Emerald Pearl, Norwegian Pearl Granite, or Blue Norwegian Moonstone.

The feldspar has partly unmixed on the micro-scale to form a Perthite, (an inter growth of two Feldspars) and the presence of the alternating Alkali Feldspar and Plagioclase layers give its characteristic silver blue sheen (Schiller effect,Labradoresence) on polished surfaces.

The crystallisation of a ternary feldspar indicates that this rock began to crystallise under lower crustal conditions. Larvikite is prized for its high polish and the labradorescence of its feldspar crystals, and is used as dimension stone, often cladding the facades of commercial buildings and corporate headquarters. It is known informally as Blue Pearl Granite, although this is not an accurate description.

Larvikite is a protective and grounding stone. It is cleansing to the subtle bodies and facilitates a strong connection with the energies of Earth, helping to connect with the spirits of Nature. Larvikite stimulates inner visions and enhances our psychic abilities. It allows us to see the past, providing clarity to visions of past life recall. Larvikite can neutralise and cancel spells that are no longer wanted. It repels negative energy. Larvikite increases our security in the strength of our own intellect, stimulates creativity and the exchange of wisdom. Larvikite helps us to see ourselves through the eyes of our higher self. Larvikite teaches patience, and can support when completion and closure to a goal is required. It also helps us to understand and resolve complicated facts and to make decisions that are rational and sober and not based upon our emotions.

Larvikite assists the brain to take in new information more easily. It creates new pathways for knowledge to travel and can open new doors for us. Larvikite can help to make us more adaptable to situations.

Because Larvikite is associated with the element of the earth, it can be used to help repel negative energies and is a great stone to wear or carry with you to protect against harmful energies that may be surrounding you. So if you find yourself needing to be in a place where the energy feels “off” such as a work environment that you have to be, but don’t like the energy – then Larvikite could be a useful tool for deflecting those energies.

Since larvikite stimulates the brain in such a way, it also lends itself towards tapping into our psychic abilities and our ability to travel through the dimensions of time. This can manifest itself in the manor of visions of past lives, connecting with Nature Spirits or helping us learn and connect with our higher self.

Thumb/Worry Stones:-

Thumb Stones/Worry Stones are smooth, polished gemstones, usually in the shape of an oval with a thumb-sized indentation, used for relaxation or anxiety relief. They are used by holding the stone between the index finger and thumb and gently moving one's thumb back and forth across the stone. This action of moving one's thumb back and forth across the stone can reduce stress. Other names that worry stones may be called are: thumb stones, fidget stones, soothing stones, or sensory stones.

As a folk practise implement, worry stones have many origins. Variations on the concept originate in Ancient Greece, Ireland, Tibet and multiple Native American Tribes. The concept of a worry stone began by the simple action of picking a smooth stone and fiddling with the stone. Native American tribes would continuously give them to younger generations, creating a sense of connection from previous family members.They also believed these worry stones were considered a sacred item and they were extra special if they were made out of quartz.

From the perspective of cognitive behaviour therapy the use of worry stones is one of many folk practises that can function as psychologically healthy self-soothing exercises. Such techniques are imparted at an early stage of treatment, displacing any familiar but destructive coping methods (nail-biting, scratching, lip-biting, etc.) that the patient may have developed. Worry stones are simple and intuitive enough to be useful in therapeutic contexts where complexity and unfamiliarity are paramount concerns, such as when offering short-term treatment to refugees or people with post-traumatic stress conditions.

After a patient has mastered a more sophisticated relaxation script for anxiety management, the worry stone itself can serve as a physical 'relaxation script reminder' - the patient may notice an impulse to use the object, and thereby become aware of their own anxiety. The rubbing of the stone can create a sense of relaxation making the mind more relaxed and generating a sense of calmness. There are also people that may use them during meditation practises, this is known to centre a personepids concentration benefiting the meditation.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0870/2453/3781/files/7887cad5-il_fullxfull.3588149076_hnm6.jpg?v=1765592615
