Gold, Silver, Copper and some incredible Cuprite specimens were the main resources from this location. This abandoned mine is located about 30 km WNW of Chillagoe and 150 km west of Cairns in far North Queensland. Historically, Chillagoe was a significant mining and smelting centre that was most active from 1888 to 1927, prior to further substantial production of gold, copper and silver from the Red Dome mine from 1986 to 1997.

This piece weighs 2g, measures 2cm x 1cm and clearly displays the cubic framework of one or more Cuprite crystals that have been enveloped and replaced by the Copper.

The name copper comes from the Greek kyprios, or Cyprus, the location of copper mines since pre-historic times. Native copper was an important ore of copper in historic times and was used by pre-historic peoples. Native copper is still found in limited quantities in once-active mining regions. These finds are now valuable as mineralogical specimens and ornamental pieces.

The site operated from about 1986 to 1997, producing about 1 million ounces, (2.8 million grams), of Gold, 35,000 tonnes of Copper ore and 4.3 million ounces, (almost 122 million grams), of Silver.

Cuprite from the Red Dome mine is justifiably famous in mineral circles, and collecting here is now forbidden, so there will be no more production. Most Red Dome cuprite consists of intergrown masses, almost rounded in style, and with little in the way of classic crystal shape to them.

Native copper is one of the few metallic elements to occur as a natural mineral in an uncombined form. It more commonly occurs in oxidized states often mixed with other elements. Native copper can occur as cubic and octahedral crystals, but more typically is found as irregular masses and fracture fillings. It has a reddish, orange to brownish colour on fresh surfaces, but often is heavily weathered and coated with secondary copper minerals and carbonates.

Some Copper on the mineral market has been cleaned and shined using various solvents. These forms are Copper can easily be spotted as their copper-red colour is almost artificial looking in its fleshy hue.

Copper is one of the most used elements in our society. You’re most likely in a room with all sorts of copper components. Aside from plumbing, technological, and medical uses, this mineral has special healing effects.

Wearing Copper on your body is believed to seep within your pores and help arthritis. In Finland, Copper miners were miraculously shielded from arthritic pain, a common medical issue found within local Finnish miners. Werner Hangarter, a German physician, was enamoured by this phenomenon and studied the effects of Copper on the body. Werner and his team developed clinical trials showing positive results of Copper for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis along with neck and back problems.

Copper sparks our passion, giving us energy, focus, optimism, and an unwavering drive to create the life we most want to live. It helps us to manifest our dreams, not simply by thinking and wishing, but by actively going out and getting stuff done! It attracts good fortune and unique opportunities. When used in meditation, Copper amplifies our energy, both grounding it deep into the earth and sending it up into the astral realm. It is a fantastic energy conductor, and can be used to strengthen the connection between two individuals or between an individual and other healing stones.

Copper encourages us to move directly into action, rather than spending too much time thinking or waiting for the optimal moment. It teaches us that we make our own luck, and that a person of action seizes life and opportunities as they come. Yet it is also a stone for diplomacy. It helps to cut through any red tape, and get right to the heart of the matter, so that both parties can find a solution that will satisfy everyone’s needs. Copper encourages creativity and free thinking, and urges us to move beyond the obvious and into the daringly possible.

Cuprite:-

Cuprite is named for the Latin cuprum, "copper", in allusion to its copper content. It was first described by the Austrian mineralogist, geologist and physicist Wilhelm Karl Ritter von Haidinger in 1845.

Cuprite can form as bright transparent red crystals, or as lustrous, submetallic opaque crystals. Even the opaque form will have slightly red edges and faint transparency upon back-lighting. Cuprite is often associated together with Native Copper in Copper deposits, and frequently forms as an encrusting reddish coating over the Copper. Malachite is known to fully or partially coat a layer or pseudomorph over Cuprite, forming an interestingly shaped and a sometimes sparkling green crystal form.

Cuprite is a Copper Oxide mineral, a member of the oxide mineral class. It stands out for its vibrant ruby-red coloration, often described as intense and fiery. This distinct hue arises from the electronic transitions within the Copper ions within the crystal lattice. Cuprite, also known as ruby copper due to its distinctive red colour.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0870/2453/3781/files/93445f2f-il_fullxfull.6800392899_gpp4.jpg?v=1765592570
https://naturesgiftsbychris.com/products/4g-native-copper-pseudomorph-after-cuprite-specimen-4b-from-the-red-dome-mine-australia
