This material is from Indonesia and is technically a type of Bloodstone, (or Heliotrope, or Seronite), apparently. This Indonesian material varies quite a lot in colour, which is not unusual for a Bloodstone. However this material is heavily filled with Chalcedony infills with their distinctive patterns and vug shapes, more like a Rhyolite.

This piece weighs 86g and measures 8.5cm x 2.7cm.

I have included a plethora of information that for me relates to this beautiful material that is clearly an interesting natural blend of many elements. It is typically defined as a dark green Chalcedony with blood-like spots of Red Jasper or iron oxide inclusions. It occurs as massive formations, ranging from dark green to greenish-blue or greenish-black, and may be translucent to opaque with a waxy, resinous lustre. In addition to the spots and streaks of Red Jasper, some formations contain inclusions that are yellow or white, while others lacking inclusions may be entirely green. Bloodstone has been referred to as Blood Jasper and specimens with only yellow inclusions have been called Plasma. In the ancient world it was considered to be a semi-precious stone or gem, and was used extensively as signet seals and in jewellery, as well as being carved into decorative cups, small vases and statuettes.

In the ancient world, Bloodstone was considered to be the most beautiful of the Jaspers, a deep, earthy green gem emboldened with spots of bright red. Called the Sun Stone, and later Christ’s Stone, its energy carries the purity of blood and inherently speaks of life and birth, vitality and strength, passion and courage. As a talisman it is both mystical and magical, and its virtues are protective and nurturing.

The most widely known legend of this stone comes from the Middle Ages and claims the “Blood Stone” was formed at the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, when the blood of his wounds fell onto the dark green earth and turned to stone. Another version declares the blood of Christ, which flowed from the fatal spear-thrust, fell upon a Green Jasper lying at the foot of the Cross, and from this sprang the Bloodstone variety of Jasper. Today, as then, Bloodstone is regarded as a gem of noble sacrifice and can offer courage and solace to all who are called to give of themselves for the good of others. It elicits the highest, most altruistic character of those who wear or carry it.

The Blood Stone, however, was treasured long before the time of Christ, known in antiquity as Heliotrope, the Sun Stone. From the Greek helios, meaning “sun,” and trepein, “to attract,” Heliotrope signified “sun-turning,” and legends were attributed to this stone for the belief that when placed in the rays of the setting sun, or immersed in water, it turned the reflection of the sun to blood-red. Its use for healing, and its connection to blood and detoxification of the organs, dates back five thousand years to Mesopotamia. In many cultures, Heliotrope was dipped in cold water and placed on the body to aid circulation and transfer the power of the sun to prevent injury or disease, stop the flow of blood, or cure any wound. Its coagulant effect was renowned, and for this reason, ancient warriors often carried Heliotrope as an amulet of protection and courage, as well as its practical applications. Ground, powdered, and mixed with honey, it was used to cure tumours, draw out snake venom and staunch hemorrhages. It was said to clear putrefaction of abscesses in a day, and simply looking at the Blood Stone was believed to prevent eye diseases.

Bloodstone was treasured not only as a talisman of good health and long life, but was reputed to bring its owner respect, good fortune, riches and fame. It protected one from deception, helped overcome enemies in battle, and secured victory in court and legal matters. It was also believed to have magical properties with the ability to control the weather by averting lightning, conjuring storms or summoning rain. Bloodstone conferred the gift of prophecy as an “audible oracle” that gave off sound as a means of guidance or to warn of danger, and could direct spiritual energies to banish negativity and evil.

Bloodstone is an intense healing stone used to cleanse and realign the lower chakras with the heart, and is conducive to balancing the total body in order to overcome any distress or anxiety associated with re-alignment of these energies. This stone is particularly stimulating to the Base and Heart Chakras.

Bloodstone carries a tremendous power to ground one fully in the body, in the here and now, and to enhance one’s capacity to function with strength, determination and courage. It provides emotional support during times of extreme adversity, and helps those who have been bullied or abandoned by others to regain their connection to the Divine, letting them know that loneliness and isolation are mere illusion. Bloodstone teaches that chaos often precedes transformation and guides one in knowing when it is appropriate to strategically withdraw from situations, and when flexibility and taking right action will help one remain true to one’s own path. Bloodstone calms the emotional body, dispels confusion and enhances decision-making, nourishing feelings of worth, self-confidence and self-sufficiency.

The word Jasper comes from “iaspi” a Greek word that means “spotted stone”. Jasper is an opaque rock of virtually any colour stemming from the mineral content of the original sediments or ash. Patterns arise during the consolidation process forming flow and depositional patterns in the original silica rich sediment or volcanic ash, Hydrothermal action is generally thought to be required in the formation of jasper.

Jasper can be modified by the diffusion of minerals along discontinuities providing the appearance of vegetative growth, i.e., dendritic. The original materials are often fractured and/or distorted, after deposition, into diverse patterns, which are later filled in with other colourful minerals. Weathering, with time, will create intensely coloured superficial rinds.

The classification and naming of jasper varieties presents a challenge. Terms attributed to various well-defined materials includes the geographic locality where it is found, sometimes quite restricted such as "Bruneau" (a canyon) and "Lahontan" (a lake), rivers and even individual mountains; many are fanciful, such as "forest fire" or "rainbow", while others are descriptive, such as "autumn" or "porcelain". A few are designated by the place of origin such as a brown Egyptian or red African.

In general, Jasper is known as the “supreme nurturer”. It sustains and supports during times of stress, and brings tranquility and wholeness. Used in healing, Jasper unifies all aspects of your life. Jasper reminds people to help each other.

Jasper is often associated with the season of autumn, with grounding and being connected to the energies of the earth. Many people who love Jasper say that it anchors them in the present moment and helps with any tendencies towards over-thinking and worrying about the future. The energy of Jasper is slow, relaxed, and very grounded, bringing comfort and a sense that all is right with your world.

Jasper encourages gratitude, something that is widely held to be extremely beneficial to our mental health. Many of us struggle with the concept of gratitude when we are feeling overwhelmed or badly treated. Jasper can help us to find the little things we need to be grateful for.

Jasper is a good stone to have near you if you feel that things are becoming overwhelming, or that you are close to burning out.Jasper is a balancing stone and can help you to put down any burdens you may be shouldering that are not yours to carry. In addition, it serves as a balancing and stability stone, providing a sense of grounding and equilibrium in our lives.

Agate is named after the place it was first discovered from. Found in the ancient Achates River in Sicily (now the river is known as Dirillo or Acate). Theophrastus in 315BC mentioned in his treatise “On Stones” that the gemstone Agate derived its name from the Sicilian River. Research shows that Agate was used in Babylon as an amulet and ornamentation material. Its use has also been seen in Greek and Egyptian civilization. There is also evidences that Agate has been in use in India since ancient times. While the original form of Agate was found in Sicily, today varieties of the stone can be found in almost every corner of the world.

Agate is one of the commonly found gemstones in the world. There are numerous varieties of stone making it is truly versatile and effervescent stone. Agate is banded chalcedony belonging to the crypto-crystalline quartz family. Agate is more like an umbrella term used to describe the many varieties of stones that have similar but also distinctive compositions and properties. Varieties of agate are usually distinguished by their colour or pattern and also by their place of origin. Agate is usually found in every colour known to mankind and even in a colorless form. Plume agate is a variety of agate that is distinguished by its colour. It is a red-brown and white-coloured banded stone that has patterns naturally inscribed within its translucent body.

Agate is one of those gemstones that have a low intensity which metaphysically means that it vibrates lesser than other stones. Even then it is highly valued for its stabilising effect and strengthening capabilities. The bands that invariably appear in all types of Agate may seem delicate but in reality, they all represent strength. Agate is known to help balance emotions, energize the intellectual capability of a person, improve a person’s physical stamina and balance the positive and negative forces of nature.

Agate can help those who have repressed emotional issues that need to be addressed so that they can let go (release) and heal. Many feel that Agate has an anti-depressant quality. It can be helpful for those who are struggling to be genuine in their lifestyle, as it promotes an understanding of the need for deeper meaning. Agate stimulates the exploration of the unknown and furthers ones quest toward the enlightened state.

Carry Agate to promote creative ability in any project or goal. Agate promotes creativity, and encourages one to find solutions rather than focusing on negative aspects of daily challenges. Crystal healers like to use Agate for its soothing and calming qualities. Agate energizes the auric body and encourages eternal and constant love by bringing in the energies of Universal and Unconditional Love. Agate is a reminder that we are love and compassion in action.

In general, Agates carry a quiet energy that works on the subtle bodies, and are great for achieving stability and balance in many aspects of one`s life. Agates tend to work behind the scenes on the cause, instead of the symptom, of an issue. Agate is believed to improve mental functions and can help where issues of clarity and stability are concerned. Agate is also helpful in overcoming negative emotions by bringing love into the chakras. Although they work very slowly and deliberately, this gentle nature of Agate helps them to have a lasting impact.

Thumb Stones/Worry Stones:-

Worry Stones are smooth, polished gemstones, usually in the shape of an oval with a thumb-sized indentation, used for relaxation or anxiety relief. They are used by holding the stone between the index finger and thumb and gently moving one's thumb back and forth across the stone. This action of moving one's thumb back and forth across the stone can reduce stress. Other names that worry stones may be called are: thumb stones, fidget stones, soothing stones, or sensory stones.

As a folk practise implement, worry stones have many origins. Variations on the concept originate in Ancient Greece, Ireland, Tibet and multiple Native American Tribes. The concept of a worry stone began by the simple action of picking a smooth stone and fiddling with the stone. Native American tribes would continuously give them to younger generations, creating a sense of connection from previous family members. They also believed these worry stones were considered a sacred item and they were extra special if they were made out of quartz.

From the perspective of cognitive behaviour therapy the use of worry stones is one of many folk practises that can function as psychologically healthy self-soothing exercises. Such techniques are imparted at an early stage of treatment, displacing any familiar but destructive coping methods (nail-biting, scratching, lip-biting, etc.) that the patient may have developed. Worry stones are simple and intuitive enough to be useful in therapeutic contexts where complexity and unfamiliarity are paramount concerns, such as when offering short-term treatment to refugees or people with post-traumatic stress conditions. After a patient has mastered a more sophisticated relaxation script for anxiety management, the worry stone itself can serve as a physical 'relaxation script reminder' - the patient may notice an impulse to use the object, and thereby become aware of their own anxiety. The rubbing of the stone can create a sense of relaxation making the mind more relaxed and generating a sense of calmness. There are also people that may use them during meditation practises, this is known to centre a persons concentration benefiting the meditation.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0870/2453/3781/files/67c6e6a9-il_fullxfull.7451291286_40c4.jpg?v=1765592431
