This slab weighs in at just over 1.4kg and measures 22cm x 14cm x 2cm.

The Jeerinah Formation is a Neoarchean geological unit that is found in the Fortescue and Hamersley Basins of Western Australia that is dated to approximately 2.69 to 2.63 billion years ago. It represents an important period in Earth's history, containing the oldest known evidence for Euxinia (oceanic anoxia) and transient oxygenation events before the Great Oxidation Event. The formation also contains a significant impact spherule layer, suggesting a major extraterrestrial impact occurred during its deposition.

Whilst people might be familiar with the Marra Mamba Iron Formation, Brockman Iron Formation and the Wittenoom Formation amongst others the Jeerinah Formation produces material just as beautiful, (in my opinion). Whilst this particular slab looks very similar to Marra Mamba it contains more Red Jasper and less Tiger Eye giving it a much richer appearance.

Jasper:-

In general, Jasper is known as the “supreme nurturer”. It sustains and supports during times of stress, and brings tranquility and wholeness. Used in healing, Jasper unifies all aspects of your life. Jasper reminds people to help each other.

The word Jasper comes from “iaspi” a Greek word that means “spotted stone”. Jasper is an opaque rock of virtually any colour stemming from the mineral content of the original sediments or ash. Patterns arise during the consolidation process forming flow and depositional patterns in the original silica rich sediment or volcanic ash, Hydrothermal action is generally thought to be required in the formation of jasper.

Jasper can be modified by the diffusion of minerals along discontinuities providing the appearance of vegetative growth, i.e., dendritic. The original materials are often fractured and/or distorted, after deposition, into diverse patterns, which are later filled in with other colourful minerals. Weathering, with time, will create intensely coloured superficial rinds.

The classification and naming of jasper varieties presents a challenge. Terms attributed to various well-defined materials includes the geographic locality where it is found, sometimes quite restricted such as "Bruneau" (a canyon) and "Lahontan" (a lake), rivers and even individual mountains; many are fanciful, such as "forest fire" or "rainbow", while others are descriptive, such as "autumn" or "porcelain". A few are designated by the place of origin such as a brown Egyptian or red African.

Hematite:-

Hematite’s name is derived from the Greek word haima, meaning blood. This stone is known for connecting the body to the Earth. Ancient Greeks associated Hematite with Mars, the god of war. Many warriors, including ancient Greeks, Romans, and Native Americans, used crushed Hematite on their bodies to create a red paint-like appearance thought to keep them safe in battle. Hematite was believed to make a warrior invulnerable and give them courage and strength. During the Patheolithic era, early humans created cave paintings using the red pigment from ground-up Hematite.

Hematite was also used for medicinal purposes in ancient times. In Mesopotamia, Hematite was used to cool the blood. Similarly, in ancient Egypt, Hematite was recommended for treating inflammation because of its iron oxide properties.

Hematite is a very special mineral that was believed to be used by man 164,000 years ago. A small area south of Mossel Bay in South Africa has been excavated numerous times since 2000 and produced numerous artefacts dating back hundreds of thousands of years ago. Interestingly, an observation from one of the excavations was that of writing on a cave wall in a red powder substance. Through extensive research and analysis it had been confirmed that this powder was in fact Hematite.

NASA made a remarkable discovery when they found Hematite on Mars. It was found by the infrared spectrometer on the NASA Mars Global Surveyor and 2001 Mars Odyssey spacecraft when it was orbiting the planet. What makes this even more interesting is the need of water for Hematite to occur. NASA Scientists are now studying the images and samples in which they took to help better understand the environment of Mars, and if it is suitable for life.

Hematite is one of the most powerful grounding stones in the mineral kingdom, intended to root your body and mind back to Earth. This stone helps refocus your thoughts and actions into those that matter to you most while guiding you on the right path. It's a stone of attraction, much like that of a magnet. Hematite is constantly pulling down excess energy from your environment to help you use it towards your best interests. Once your focus becomes anchored to the Earth, Hematite shows you that anything you desire is achievable.

Tiger Eye:-

Tiger’s Eye forms when Quartz forms over existing bluish-grey Crocidolite, and eventually entirely replaces it. Crocidolite is a type of asbestos mineral, which means its composition is of fine, dense fibres. These fibres form in a parallel yet wavy orientation, and this causes the intriguing chatoyant effect exhibited in Tiger's Eye. During the replacement process, the iron within the Crocidolite dissolves and stains the Quartz, thereby providing the golden yellow to brown colour of the Tiger's Eye.

Tiger Eye stone history dates back thousands of years to when the golden-brown quartz was carved into amulets and talismans worn by ancient Roman soldiers. The tiger eye gemstone "flash" was also believed to be distracting to the opponent of a warrior or soldier. It was believed to help one remain calm and courageous, stay focused and persevere like the unwavering focus and determination of a tiger.

The tiger has seemingly infinite patience, it will wait steadfastly until the time is right for it to begin the unwavering pursuit of its prey. Tiger Eye is believed to impart the patience of the tiger, giving one a greater ability to wait and the insight and clear focus to recognise when the time is right.

Tigers live in harmony with nature, using their impressive power only when needed. Tiger eye gemstones impart this balance and harmony by helping one to think clearly without anxiety or fear.

Tiger Eye imparts compassion, grace and unconditional love and will facilitate communication by allowing one to participate without anxiety or fear. The ability to think clearly with unwavering focus will provide a better understanding of one's path and how one can become a helpful force in the world.

Stones that have a more golden tiger eye colour are believed to impart a deeper sense of commitment and devotion. They facilitate mature enthusiasm, a desire for lifelong commitment and unconditional love.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0870/2453/3781/files/eacfb80a-il_fullxfull.7328848699_l1ee.jpg?v=1765592526
